Dream House Wish List Ideas and Must Have Rooms

Top 12 Dream Rooms for When You Imagine that Next House Plan

If that home you’ve sketched and furnished in your mind can actually be yours, what would your innermost wishes be for this home?

From the simplest, most basic – yet creative – to the perfectly outrageous, here are today’s most desired rooms and must-have floor plan features that homeowners would love to have in today’s dream home.

Our first in a two-part series, starting with the interior, we uncover our users’ and home builders’ top 12 “wish” list.

1. Huge Kitchen with Double Island & Butler’s Pantry.

Who wouldn’t love a spacious kitchen with every high-end amenity and plenty of space in their new house design? The double-island layout offers one island for the chef and another for casual in-kitchen gatherings with family and friends. Plus, with that butler’s pantry, you can move some of the mess you make away from the party and out of sight. If only it came with a butler — that’s why they call it dreaming.

2. Spirits/Wine Room.

Invite your closest friends to your private spirits/wine room, where they can sample some of your favorite wines, bourbons, and cocktails — while relaxing in comfy chairs. Cigar lovers are adding a humidor in this room for the whole experience. With proper ventilation, your friends and family can also enjoy that stogey indoors!

3. Home Theater/Media Room.

What about the kids? They can hang out with their friends or siblings in the home theater. Watch movies or the game on the big screen. If you have multiple flat-screen TVs on the walls, you can even hook up the Xbox for a large in-person game of Minecraft or Call of Duty. Even better, have family movie nights anytime you want!

4. Game Room / Bowling Alley.

Perhaps you’d love to have a family or friends game night in your personal arcade. Your game room can have something for everyone — from billiards, foosball, or cards to Galaga, the sky is the limit. More space to spare in your huge basement? How about a private bowling alley — the White House has one.

5. Home Library.

If you love to read, having a home library is the perfect place to relax and get lost in one of your many adventures. We can only dream of having a library like the one at Hogwart’s (which is, in fact, the Bodleian Library in England). Maybe a more “realistic” one would be Uncle Willy’s in the movie High Society, complete with a secret bar! Are you working from home? Combine your library with your home office.

6Safe Room/Secret Room.

Concerned about safety from tornadoes or a home break-in? Head into your ultra-secure safe room. But for those with money to spare, it’s all about the secret room now. This version is much more mysterious, adventurous, or romantic — complete with a secret passageway to get there. Perhaps it could be a spot to relax, read a book from your hidden library, or just be a novelty. Jinkies! We’re getting Scooby-Doo vibes.

Having the luxury of a home gym or fitness room is a fantastic way to stay in shape, especially if you have a hectic schedule.
