Today we started remodeling our own home. As I designed the renovations, I couldn't stop thinking about how much easier it would be to start from scratch. Trying to stick new into the old is certainly no easy chore. What a mess it makes, but hopefully it will be worth it. I actually designed and built the home we have been in for the past eight years. We are expecting our fourth child in September, so my wife has the nesting instinct and feels like we need more space. I have to admit that my building business does well because of expecting mothers. It kind of forces people out of smaller homes and into bigger homes. Apparently expecting mothers like new homes. After all, would you really like to let your baby crawl around on the carpet of an old home. Think about all the old dirt the previous owners brought into the house. There are probably old toe nail clippings in your carpet. Gross, but true. If you have been deciding whether to buy an existing home, or build a new one; I would highly recommend you go new. The new designs and styles are simply worth more. For instance, Justin has a nice home I built for him about five years ago. He put his up for sale about a month ago. In that time, I have sold four new homes in his neighborhood. New homes are simply more desireable. Don't worry Justin, your home will sell too. It is a great house plan in a good neighborhood. That is the key to value. A good house plan in a good location, means value. Don't skimp on either.
