I was just telling Jake E. that my lumber salesman told me that they have been so busy this year that they keep raising prices to slow it down. That was probably not the smartest thing to tell one of his biggest clients. I have already started to price check him to make sure I am getting the best possible prices. It is a constant battle to make sure the subs and suppliers are giving you their very best pricing and service. Take your time and get your home plan bid out by 3-4 subs and suppliers. You will probably have to buy some products form one supplier and some from another. Remember, it is your money to save, not theirs to spend. I just checked carpet prices and a National building supply company. I currently pay $21 a yard for a nice piece of carpet. That includes installation, and pad too. The big national store wants $33 a yard for the same stuff. However, their prices on tile, bead board and a few other things, were the least amount, hands down. This is true with everything from to subs, suppliers and mortgage companies. Take your time and shop around.
