Modifications, Part 2

House Plan Modifications

Last week, we asked the question "Are My Modifications Feasible?" We learned that if you are considering modifications, you should:

  1. Always have a plan
  2. Get in the habit of Visualizing your changes
  3. Keep it simple
After carefully considering these principles, the next question you should ask is:

How much will my Modifications Cost?

Have you found a house plan that has the potential to become your dream home? Have you planned and visualized each of your changes? Now all you need to do is find out how much your changes will cost.

We at The Plan Collection have done everything we can to make this process as simple and as painless as possible. When looking at your future dream home, you will notice at the top of the screen a "Customize" tab. By clicking this tab, you will come to a page that allows you to describe the changes you want made. After you have told us exactly what you want to modify, we go straight to work at getting you an accurate price quote. Please be as specific as possible. If your request is not specific enough (i.e. "We want to expand the Kitchen" or "Reduce the square footage to 2,500 sq. ft."), we may have to contact you again to get more information about your desired changes.

It is important to note that although we at The Plan Collection don't make any modifications, we will do everything we can to arrange your modifications with an experienced draftsman. When you receive your price quote, remember that the modification fees are only half of the total cost; you also need to purchase the plans.

Many people wonder "what plan package should I order?" Normally, four or five sets of blueprints will suffice, but that won't work if you are going to be making modifications. You see, each house plan that is featured on our website is a copyrighted document. And it is illegal to make changes to a copyrighted home plan without the consent of the original designer. Don't let this information upset you; almost every home designer featured on our website offers either a CAD File or Vellum/Reproducible Set. Both of these options include a written document giving you a copyright release to make any modifications you want. We understand that both the CAD File and Vellum/Reproducible Set are usually more expensive than a regular four- or five-set package of blueprints, but that is the price of obtaining a copyright release.

If you have any questions about the process we've just discussed, don't hesitate to contact us. We are here to help in any way that we can. Modifications are an important service, and we will do everything in our power to make it easy and enjoyable for you. Happy House Hunting!
