Microsoft, Dell and Bono Become One

There are many people that I admire. Some are famous, some smart, some famous and smart and others just genuinely good people. Today I thought I'd mention a few of the more famous and smart variety that are doing some great things in the business world that will have a great impact on the livelyhood of many people.

First there is Bono - front man for an extremely popular rock band called U2. I started to admire him as a fan because like most teenagers I thought their music was cool. Now i'm old - their music is still cool - and Bono has used his celebrity for good causes over the years to make the world a better place. Secondly, there is Bill Gates for obvious reasons. His little company called Microsoft creates products used by nearly everyone and every business that owns a computer - except for a couple of people that use macs. And then there is Michael Dell that created a huge company making computers at reasonable costs. I have owned many Dell computers and have been quite pleased.

So I was reading an article on MSN today about this trio and their efforts to help fight the HIV/Aids epidemtic in Africa. I was already impressed with Bono's Product (RED)idea which generated sales off of products at the Gap, Motorola, and others and donated profits to the cause. In fact I tried to buy some of those products and the demand was so high that they were not available for a long time. Now Microsoft and Dell have teamed up with Bono to produce (RED) computers using a (RED) windows Version. Each computer sold will donate $50-80 to the initiative and sustain someone with HIV/Aids for 3-6 months needed medications. What a great idea it is to develop products people will want to buy anyway and use the proceeds to help those in need. Anyone that gives of their time, abilities or used their business and or resources to help others is admirable to me.

We should all go out and buy some new computers, or other Product (RED) Items. Or, see how you can get involved here..
