Please, if I tell you how frustrating it is to find a house plan with a mother in law ground floor apartment...yikes, and I am the mother in law. My kids and I want to pool our resources and build a two story southern style (front/back porch) with a great room, master on the first floor, two bedrooms on second and a small apartment for me, either attached with a breezeway. I found something on eplans HWEPL55448 but it is built on pilings, we need slab (live in Florida but not a flood zone) they said they can not change the floor plan...plus the mother in law is just a detached bedroom, need a small living area with a kitchenette. Can you help Tired of looking Jill

Hi Jill, I agree that it is difficult to find! I found this one: http://tinyurl.com/d5zhek and this one: http://tinyurl.com/d4j586 They may not be what you are looking for. Here is an idea: Take the design of the MIL suite or even just the measurements of the suite from these plans and attach them to a plan that the rest of the family agrees with and then reconfigure the suite's layout as you personally would use it. Does this make sense? I hope I am explaining this properly. I like to copy and paste layouts into a current plan. I hardly ever make something up from scratch. Get your inspiration from these and then incorporate them into another plan that may only have a guest bedroom downstairs. Expand the bedroom with an added dinette/kitchen. I hope this helps! I love looking at house plans and getting ideas for designs. Sue

Hi Jill, Have you checked with a local structural engineer on converting to a slab? It depends on your soils and local codes. We had an engineer convert a basement plan to a slab for us so that it would pass city codes. Sue
